One of the SGV’s Top Boba Shops Is Opening an Asian Convenience Store at Downtown Disney

Bopomofo. | Matthew Kang Plus, a salad bar extravaganza, some of LA’s best al pastor tacos head to Silver Lake, and more Bopomofo, a popular Taiwanese boba tea shop based in San Gabriel, will open a new location at Downtown Disney called Bopo Go (stylized as Bopo Go!). The new shop was announced on the Disney Parks Blog on April 1 but an opening date hasn’t been shared yet. Bopo Go is inspired by Asian convenience stores and will feature Bopomofo’s signature teas and boba drinks alongside imported snacks, candies, and small bites. Phil Wang, one half of Wong Fu Productions, along with business partner Eric Wang, opened the first Bopomofo in 2019. Drink options at the shop include jasmine tea, strawberry corn milk, brown sugar pudding milk tea, and an assortment of matcha drinks. For snacks, the cafe offers mapo tofu-inspired mapo tots, a spicy Taiwanese chicken sandwich, and Hainan chicken tacos. When Bopo Go opens, it’ll join the recently-arrived Downtown Disney Din Tai Fung, along with two forthcoming restaurants from chef Joe Isidori. A salad bar extravaganza After publishing a multi-part series on Los Angeles’s best salads (and what sets the good apart from the bad), food journalist Emily Wilson is teaming up with Biite Club to host a salad bar extravaganza of her own on April 12. Hosted at Little City Farm, the event will pay tribute to the salads at restaurants like Souplantation, Erewhon, and Pizza Hut. Expect an all-out salad bar with farm fresh produce, paired with drinks from kombucha and shrubs brand Balo. Tickets are available on Biite Club’s website. Some of LA’s best al pastor tacos are headed to Silver Lake LA Taco reports that Tacos Frontera, a Cypress Park taqueria known for its al pastor, is opening a second, larger location in Silver Lake. The new location, which is in the same strip mall as Hot Tongue Pizza, is slated to open on Cinco de Mayo. Food & Wine ranks LA as the U.S. city for coffee In a story for Food & Wine, writer Julie Wolfson names Los Angeles the best U.S. city for coffee, pointing to the diversity of the cafe scene here, as well as the scientific approach baristas take to pulling the perfect espresso shots. In a second story, Wolfson shouts out some of the city’s best cafes, including Picaresca Barra de Cafe in Boyle Heights, Endorffeine in Chinatown, and File Systems of Coffee in Hollywood. An LA smash burger is headed to Santa Barbara Los Angeles smash burger restaurant the Window (stylized as the Win~Dow), is expanding up the coast with a new location in Santa Barbara coming this May. This will be the first location for the Window outside of Los Angeles. When it opens, it'll bring its $4.35 cheeseburger, $8 grain bowl, and excellent fried chicken sandwich.
