Guido’s. | Guido’s Plus, Trois Familia is back, eat dinner in a Cadillac, and more Guido’s, a longstanding Sawtelle red sauce Italian restaurant, is closing on May 31 after 46 years, reports L.A. Taco. The restaurant, which opened in 1979, is well known for its old-school charm, tuxedoed servers, and red leather booths. For decades, patrons have been piling into Guido’s for Italian classics like eggplant Parmigiana, spaghetti Bolognese, and chicken picatta. According to L.A. Taco, an anonymous staff member alleges that the restaurant’s owner does not “own the lease to the property or land,” and that there are rumors the lot could be turned into apartments. Guido’s is the latest in a series of old-school restaurant closures that have shaken Los Angeles. Greek restaurant Papa Cristo’s, which has been serving Angelenos for 77 years, is slated to close on May 4, while 101-year-old Los Angeles diner Original Pantry Cafe, 41-year-old Highland Park mariscos truck El Mar Azul, and 18-year-old La Grande Orange have already shuttered this year.
